Mijas is already gearing up for the “most ambitious Christmas in its history”. This is how the mayoress of the town, Ana Mata (PP), described it, explaining that this year’s artistic lighting will feature 3.8 million LED lights, representing an increase compared to last year. In addition, as the main new feature, there will not be just a single switch-on, but three: in Mijas Pueblo on the 3rd, in La Cala on the 4th and in Las Lagunas on the 5th, a measure designed to ensure that each town centre plays a leading role.

“The aim is for everyone to feel that Christmas is already upon us and to enjoy it in the best possible way, because these are very traditional and very special dates and, above all, very family-oriented. This government team works for and on behalf of families, while always putting Mijas on the map for those looking for something special at Christmas”, added Mata.

Until this year, the switching on of the artistic lighting rotated, taking place in the village one year, Las Lagunas another, and La Cala the following year. However, due to its importance, there will now be three switch-ons on consecutive days. The events will begin at 18:00 in the Virgen de la Peña Square (Mijas Pueblo), La Cala Boulevard (La Cala de Mijas) and Mijas Avenue (Las Lagunas).

Likewise, the lighting in each district has been improved, with 20 new or reinforced areas in Mijas Pueblo, 15 in Las Lagunas and 12 in La Cala, totalling 47 areas.

“Christmas is a very special time for everyone, which is why we wanted each district to shine on its own. We want these festivities to be unforgettable and we have put all our efforts into making this happen, with the help of all the people of Mijas”, explained the mayoress.

An innovative audiovisual show

The Town Hall has announced that, as a new feature this year, each town centre will host an “innovative audiovisual show. This is something completely new, designed to add an extra attraction to the already charming Christmas celebrations in Mijas”.

The shows will take place in the Virgen de la Peña Square (Pueblo), La Cala Boulevard (La Cala de Mijas) and Mijas Avenue (Las Lagunas) at three different times: 19, 20:30 and 22 hours. The mayoress did not want to reveal any details about these activities, although she did say that they are sure to surprise the public.  In addition, each district will have its own programme to meet the requests of local residents.

"We have prepared activities aimed at all audiences, from the youngest to anyone who wants to participate in this extensive calendar that has been developed so that we can have the Christmas we deserve", said Mata, adding that: "This year will be a totally different Christmas and we have made a great effort to bring Christmas to more corners of our municipality".
