At the beginning of the 1960's, workers usually returned home on their donkeys and were usually stopped by visitors to take photos and have a ride. Nearly every time, the tips given by the tourists were more than a day's wage. It was due to this that a new profession was born; The Donkey Taxi Service. At present it has become an institution, with over 60 Donkey Taxis, being one of the main tourist attractions of Mijas.
