The councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), this week praised the strong health of the tourism sector in Mijas and its ability to adapt to new market challenges. At a recent technical conference on tourism held in La Cala de Mijas, Jerez highlighted the municipality’s strength as a leading destination on the Costa del Sol, thanks, according to the department, to “a balanced model combining tradition, freedom and economic development”.
“Mijas is a destination with its own identity, which has managed to maintain a balance between quality, proximity and innovation. We have shown that it is possible to grow without losing our essence or relying on other models”, said Jerez.

Offer
Jerez highlighted that tourism in Mijas is based on a diverse offering that reinforces both holiday and residential tourism and tourist accommodation. “This variety allows us to maintain stable occupancy throughout the year, distributing the benefits among our local shops, restaurants and services,” he added.
During his speech, the councillor also stressed the importance of improving infrastructure and maintaining a smooth relationship between the public and private sectors: “The future of tourism depends on cooperation, effective management and ensuring that investments go where they are really needed. That is the direction we will continue to take in Mijas”.
Jerez concluded by noting that “Mijas has a solid present and a promising future. Our commitment is to continue consolidating a free, competitive and sustainable tourism model in the truest sense of the term: one that protects the employment and prosperity of the people of Mijas”.
