After 'Blues Night', the Department of Tourism of the Mijas Town Hall presents a new musical event, this time focusing on a genre that emerged in the 1940s in the United Kingdom and spread to other countries such as the United States, Argentina and Spain in the 1960s: folk music. The organisers promise that the Folk Night will not disappoint music lovers. "At the first meeting, they told me that they wanted quality above all else, and we had no doubts. Hevia is quality, and so are Jones & Kid", said the artistic director of the promoter SIE Palandaluz, José Francisco García.
This musical event in our town also has a charitable aspect. "Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to contribute a kilo of non-perishable food or personal hygiene products, which will be donated to Caritas and the Food Bank", said the councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez, who highlighted his department's commitment to bringing top-level artists to the municipality and added that, "we hope people will come and have a good time in the auditorium, where there will also be a bar serving food and drink so that everyone who comes can relax and enjoy themselves".

Hevia, anniversary
On the 9th of August (22 hours), Hevia, the Asturian musician who is currently celebrating his anniversary, will take to the stage as the headliner. Since his appearance on the music scene with Busindre Reel, included on his debut album Tierra de Nadie (1998), the Asturian bagpiper will perform an extensive review of his greatest hits, pieces that the musician himself, an honorary member of the Academy of the Asturian Language, has revisited on a compilation album entitled 'Platinum Latinum Europe Award'. If Hevia stands out for one thing, it is for having revolutionised Celtic music on an international level. "He will take us on a journey through all the popular music of his homeland, Asturias, Cantabria and part of Galicia, fused with quite tribal rhythms, and in this type of event we must ensure that people have fun".
Hevia, inventor of the electronic bagpipe, together with Alberto Arias and Miguel Dopico,is the world’s best-selling bagpiper, with three million albums sold and Gold and Platinum discs in Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Portugal, Denmark and New Zealand, among other countries.
Hevia has won numerous national and international awards, such as the 'Muestra Nacional de Música Folk para Jóvenes Intérpretes' (National Folk Music Showcase for Young Performers) from the Youth Institute, the 'Memorial Remis Ovalle', an Ondas award, several Music awards and the Amigo award. He has also been recognised at the 'Rencontres Internationales de Luthiers et Maîtres Sonneurs' in St. Chartier (France), 'Bowmore' in Lorient (France), 'Rock & Trend' at the San Remo Festival (Italy), 'Die Goldene Stimmgabel' in Germany and the prestigious 'Platinum Europe Award' in Belgium, awarded to all artists who sell more than a million records in Europe in a year.
Jones & Kid
The talented guitarist 'Kid Carlos' (who has performed alongside major blues figures such as Otis Grand, Jon McDonald, Kirk Fletcher, Carvin Jones and Monster Mike Welch) joins the voice of Txako Jones (who has worked with musicians such as Liis Hirvoja, Elin Klingfors, Maja Rivic, George Karpasitis, David Horler, Graeme Airth, Eikel Venegas, and Patrick Sheeran, among others) to form a duo that will leave no one indifferent. "She is a delight to listen to and he is a virtuoso on the guitar. Together, they will take us on a journey through several generations of American and Spanish folk music, playing classic songs that I am sure will surprise you", said García.
