The golf sector will have a privileged place for the municipality at the London tourism fair

From the 4th to the 7th of November, London will become the main hub for the international tourism industry. The celebration of the World Travel Market (WTM), one of the most important tourism fairs, will host the main agents, institutions and operators in the sector.
The Mijas Town Hall, through the Tourism Department, attends the event to reinforce its position as one of the strategic destinations not only in the Costa del Sol and Spain, but also in the international market. Following the strategy initiated in the last edition of Fitur, the municipality will be presented to visitors as a unique destination for the “sensory and evocative experience it offers”. With ‘Mijas, as you like it’ as the main line of work, the Town Hall attends this important fair with an agenda of meetings and encounters with different operators to reinforce the positioning of Mijas in the international market.
In this regard, the mayoress of the city, Ana Mata (PP), stressed the importance of international tourists for the municipality, especially the British, whose relevance is beyond doubt. “Mijas is not only a destination, it is a sensation, and it is precisely this evocative and sensory character that makes us a unique destination that offers possibilities and services that visitors do not find anywhere else”, said the mayoress.
This is evidenced by the data that, in recent months, the Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos) has been providing and which have placed Mijas as one of the leading destinations in the province of Malaga. In fact, from June to September the average occupancy rate recorded was 90.94%, “data that show all the goodness that define us and in which we must keep working to maintain, improve and strengthen our character as leaders”, said the mayoress.
For his part, the councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), referred to the important work carried out by the tourist offices in the municipality, “gateway to tourists, to whom they offer an efficient, very professional and attentive service”, as reflected in the statistics and which show that the British market occupies almost 20% of the queries they receive, being the most numerous traveler after the national tourist.
Golf
Talking about golf is talking about quality tourism, differentiated offer and commitment, and Mijas is a benchmark in this sport and a key operator. In fact, it gathers 17% of the golf courses of the Costa del Sol, being the second municipality with the largest offer.
The latest data recorded show that, since the pandemic, the average expenditure of the golf tourist in Mijas has gone from 120 euros per day to more than 200 euros. In addition, Mijas is a leader in golf tourism packages.
The launch of the 1st Mijas Sun & Golf golf circuit, held from June to August, in which six golf courses in the municipality were involved, “highlights the strategic nature of this sector and, furthermore, with the help of ‘Mijas, as you like it’ it consolidates and strengthens its position in the golf tourism segment”.
