The Mijas Foreigners and Tourism Departments collaborate in this initiative. Four guided tours are proposed between March 31st and April 17th

Sandra Gallardo and Pia Bruunare the tourist guides who will accompany the foreign residents of the municipality and the province on these guided tours of Mijas Vi-llage, which will take place between March 31st and April 17th. “What we are going to do is focus on the history, cultural development, and heritage of Mijas Pueblo and we are going to emphasize places, squares, buildings, houses, characters, who as a whole have contributed to the current Mijas”, Bruun stated.

The Departments for Foreigners and Tourism of the Local Council collaborate in the implementation of this initiative. “Mijas Secrets is a programme that is made available to residents of the municipality and the entire province so that they can get to know in depth the culture and history of Mijas”, declared the councillor for Foreigners, Arancha López (C’s), who added: “We are starting now with very specific dates, but if more activities of this type are required of us, we will organise them”.

For his part, the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín(C’s), valued this initiative very positively: “We have to be able to mobilise local tourism, it is about us being able together to value our municipality, that already has prestige and is known, but above all that the residents of our town have the chance to really get to know Mijas Pueblo, its culture, its gastronomy, its heritage”. The Town Hall encourages participation in these routes and for residents to enjoy the view from all corners of the village. “What better than to take advantage of the situation to get to know this municipality with the cultural and traditional wealth that we have and, therefore, we decided to launch this guided visit programme, so that foreigners who have lived in the municipality for many years can get to know it better”, explained councillor López.

Safe routes, small groups

These cultural tours are offered in three languages (30% of the residents in the municipality are foreigners): English, German and Scandinavian and at a reduced price, between 12 and 15 euros per person. On March 31st and April 1st, participants in the route will have the opportunity to really understand the Mijas Holy Week, with the collaboration of the Nazareno and Cristo de la Paz brotherhoods. Foreign residents will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Mijas Holy Week. “We take advantage of the moment to fi nd out a little more about its origin, the preparations, the day-to-day life of the brotherhoods and the pride and sacrifice that this entails”, said Gallardo.

Another of the proposals included within these guided routes will take us to discover the artisan and artistic Mijas, and these will be on April 8th and 15th. It should be remembered that in 2018 Mijas was declared to be an Area of Artisan Interest. “We will visit the workshops, both traditional and modern, and we will see the full range of artistic and creative potential that exists in the village”, said the organisers. We will have an appointment with the history of Mijas on April 4th, focused on the Andalusian Legacy and on the 10th and 17th, where the Mijas of Yesterday and today will be addressed.
