Mijas - The cleaning of the Mijas coastline continues, to prepare for the Easter Week holidays
The Department for Beaches of the Mijas Town Hall continues to prepare the coastline of the municipality, this time thinking about the coming Easter holidays and the possible arrival of visitors. These days they are working on the replacement and movement of sand in those points of the coast most affected by this winter’s storms. According to the councillor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín (C’s), it is work that is carried out every year to prevent the erosion of the coastline and in which two machines are used: a loader and a ‘dumper’. “Since the beginning of March we have deployed two rotating machines to carry out these works. We will remain on the coast until the end of the month, coinciding with the beginning of Easter Week”, explained Martín. In addition to these tasks, the councillor continued to report that the beach operators are also busy these days with the painting of the structure of the coastal path and in the renovation of the sections that are more deteriorated. “Our beaches have to be in perfect condition for Easter, whatever the situation that the pandemic allows may be. We hope that the incidence of the coronavirus will decrease in our area and that the health authorities allow the arrival of visitors from other provinces and those who have their second residence in our municipality. Meanwhile, we have to guarantee that our coast presents its best image”, concluded the councillor.
The municipality obtained in 2020 three blue flags from the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAD) and 9 ‘Q’s for Quality’, and the Andalusian Government recognized the entire Mijas coastline with the ‘Andalucía Segura’ seal, valuing especially the application of protection measures against COVID-19.
