Mijas - The beaches boast the SAFE TOURISM certification
The distinctions already awarded to the Department for Beaches, such as the blue flag and the ‘Q’ for Tourism Quality were joined on Tuesday 24th by a new distinction: Safe Tourism Certified, a recognition granted by the Spanish Institute of Tourism Quality that certifi es the Health Risk Prevention System against COVID-19 launched this summer by the Mijas Local Government on its beaches. According to the mayor, Josele González (PSOE), who raised the new flag together with the councillor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín (C’s), “this certificate will allow the beaches in our municipality to have all the certifications that demonstrate not only the quality of our beaches but also the safety of our coastline. They will be available for the new bathing season that we hope will be, as far as possible and after the start of the vaccinations, a good tourist year, since the maintenance of numerous businesses and jobs throughout the Costa del Sol will also depend on this”. The certification not only benefits bathers, but also the business owners of beach bars or kiosks, whom both the mayor and the councillor for Beaches thanked for their collaboration, as well as that of the municipal employees. According to Martín, “now our doors are closed but we are going to work to reactivate the tourism industry as soon as possible and, to do so successfully, we need to achieve excellence, a fact that is reinforced with all the quality certifications that we have and which position us at the head of the safe destinations”.
