‘Show-cookings’, live performances, tastings, and many products from Malaga. The ‘Sabor a Málaga’ market provided a gourmet touch on the weekend of October 24th and 25th in Mijas. On Saturday and Sunday the Plaza Virgen de la Peña hosted this event brought by the Provincial Council of Malaga with a smaller format and security measures included due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19, such as capacity and temperature control, as well as dispensers of sanitizing gel. “The current philosophy, as a result of this pandemic situation, is to be able to reach all municipalities with a smaller format, so instead of a fair, markets are organised with fewer ‘stands’, in this case, 18, in which different producers within ‘Sabor a Málaga’ rotate”, explained the vice president of the Provincial Council, Juan Carlos Maldonado (Ciudadanos). This past weekend Mijas was the setting chosen to develop this market. “We organise it to promote Malaga products, but at the same time catering establishments that are here in Mijas”, said the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), who clarified that during the weekend seven local establishments participated in the ‘show-cookings’. The Department for Tourism has made a very positive assessment of the celebration of the ‘Sabor a Malaga’ market in Mijas, where more than 6,000 people have attended. “On Sunday we broke records in the province as we received 3,877 visitors, which has been the busiest day in all the gastronomic markets held this year”, said the councillor for the area, José Carlos Martín (C’s).
