The beaches of Mijas now have extra reinforcements: 54 beach assistants who join the thirty coordinators and controlling staff of the Local Council and the 60 lifeguards who ensure the safety of the beaches. The mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the councillor for Tourism and Beaches, José Carlos Martín (C’s), received last Monday the 13th the visit of the Delegate of the Andalusian Government in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, to the Cala de Mijas, where they have assessed the measures carried out to make Mijas one of the safest destinations in Andalusia this summer and where Navarro reported the hiring of the new staff. “A few weeks ago, the Andalusian Government approved an item for 24 million euros for the hiring of 3,000 beach assistants for all of Andalusia, of which 54 have come to the municipality of Mijas”, she explained, adding that this new staff “contributes to support and complete the entire security device” that the Town Hall already had in place and which she personally inspected last Monday. The auxiliaries will form part of the municipality’s beach programme, in charge of ensuring compliance with the regulations during the summer along our coast. “From the Local Council, we have made an unprecedented effort to have the safest beaches in history, with a device including more than 60 lifeguards and 30 coordinators and their own controlling staff, who will be touring the beaches, to which we must add the 54 auxiliaries sent by the Andalusian Government”, explained the mayor, who thanked the delegate for visiting, going on to emphasize that this encourages “collaboration between administrations”. The mayor advocated the continuity of the relationship, as he considered “essential to continue collaborating so that the beaches of Mijas and the province of Malaga continue to live up to the level of demand” expected by those who visit us. In this regard, he assured that the council will continue working to offer “a safe family destination” along the 14 kilometres of the Mijas coast, both regarding the beach and safety of visitors, so that hotel reservations “continue to increase for the coming month”.
