Consolidating the winter tourist in our municipality is the main objective for which Mijas is participating in the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), the most important event in the sector that this year is being held in Marrakech until October the 17th and with the intention of attracting golfing enthusiasts to Mijas. The Town Hall has already closed several meetings to show its offer to golf travel industry professionals and suppliers. “In addition to presenting our ‘Guide to the Mijas golf Courses’, we have held several meetings”, said the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (C’s). “We are one of the key locations for this sport on the Costa del Sol and we have the complicity and union of the private sector to, together, continue working to increase the numbers of visitors”, added the councillor. The objective of the Department for Tourism is to attract winter tourists and thus put an end to seasonality and keep the jobs throughout the year. “There is a signifi cant fact that we have to show the public as is the quality we offer and that other similar destinations do not offer in other countries that may be cheaper”, he added. Martín stressed that the International Golf Travel Market “is a showcase” for Mijas “and an opportunity to contact golf-related agents globally”.
