Mijas - QUALITY BEACHES
Mijas receives a national distinction for the Salvage and First Aid service and maintains the three blue flags.
Last year, an important effort was made to reinforce the Salvage and First Aid device on the beaches of the municipality. Therefore, from June 1st to September 30th, 2018, 76 personnel integrated this service, which also had 15 watchtowers, a control post, and three beach points adapted for persons with functional diversity. This effort has been recognized by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC). This entity, which evaluates the state of the beaches in Spain, has granted the municipality of Mijas a thematic distinction to the Salvage and First Aid service in addition to maintaining the three blue flags that had already been awarded to Mijas last year, on the beaches of La Cala, El Bombo and Calahonda-Royal Beach. “We have a coastline of the highest quality, not only because of the state of the water, accessibility and cleanliness, but also for the services we offer in terms of security. It is a pride for the residents of Mijas to know that of the nine thematic awards granted throughout the whole of Spain, our municipality has received one of them”, said the Mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado (C’s), during a visit to La Cala-El Torreón beach on Wednesday, May 8th with the Provincial Tourism Delegate of the Regional Government, Nuria Rodríguez. The mayor also announced that Mijas maintains the catalogue of ‘Blue Centre’ on the El Torreón de La Cala beach as well as the denomination of ‘Sendero Azul’ (Blue Path) for the Coastal Path, being the only one in the province that has this distinction. Blue flags Andalusia has been awarded 96 Blue Flag distinctions, of which 17 are in the province of Malaga. The provincial delegate valued the fact that “the Costa del Sol offers a wide range of complementary services to the ‘sun and beach’ offer, as are exceptional gastronomy, sports and cultural events, direct contact with nature and personalized attention by the professionals of the sector”.
