Mijas - All is ready for the gourmet route Mijas
On Friday, March 15th, the ‘I Ruta Gourmet Mijas’ (Mijas Gourmet Route) will begin, a new initiative promoted by the Town Hall, which intends to promote the magniﬁ cent gastronomy offered in the municipality. “We are exploring all the segments that the Strategic Tourism Plan has marked us in the road map proposed until 2022. One of them is the gastronomic offer, which we have already presented at this latest edition of Fitur (International Tourism Fair) and which now gains more strength with this Gourmet Route, which intends to invigorate the municipality and show the great potential we have in this sector”, assured the mayor, Juan Carlos Maldonado (C’s). Until next April 14th, all visitors and residents who wish to, will have at their disposal at noon and at night a ﬁ xed menu prepared by each of the eight participating establishments, consisting of entree, main course and dessert, plus half a bottle of wine per person, at 19 euros. “Many cities already have the ‘Ruta de la tapa’ (The Tapa Route) and therefore we wanted to give a twist to the concept to distinguish ourselves. The ‘gourmet’ formula helps us showcase the best of our gastronomy”, stated Juan Carlos Acevedo, head of the Tourism Department.
In the same way, the department has enabled a ‘passport,’ where all the menus are reﬂ ected and a map with the location of the restaurants, so that clients can have them stamped each time they consume in one of the participating premises. Those who ﬁll it out can state their appreciation and vote for their favourite establishment at the Tourism Ofﬁ ce before April 30th and they will enter a draw for a ﬁ ve-day Mediterranean cruise for two people departing from Malaga.
Chema’s Terrace, Fiesta, La Cucina di Nico, Latitude 36, Triana, La Bodega del Pintor, Alboka Gastro and Koko Café are the restaurants that participate in this ‘Gourmet Route’, each with a ﬁrst menu designed for the occasion, where we can ﬁnd dishes such as raspberry ‘salmorejo’ with ham shavings, mango curry in natural pineapple, shrimp in corn tempura, hake at low temperature with coconut cream, Iberian ham with mojo picón, slices of capresse sea bass with rosemary sauce and thyme, Sierra Mijas roast lamb and tomatoe and mozarella salad on puff pastry, among others.

The ‘Strategic Tourism Plan’ distinguishes several alternative sectors to the three traditional in Mijas: sun and beach, white Andalusian village and golf. Among them, gastronomy, craftsmanship, sports and nature stand out as the main options. “We need to go hand in hand with entrepreneurs and administration to continue growing in tourism. We have made a strong commitment at the Town Hall to provide greater excellence in our destination every day and, above all, to achieve our main objective which is to break with seasonality to generate quality employment 365 days a year”, added the mayor, who also highlighted the advances that have been made in other segments, such as sports, nature tourism or the commitment to boost the value of the work of artisans from Mijas.
