The distinction awarded to the Mijas Town Hall is due to its involvement with the UMA in the development of the ‘Strategic Tourism Plan’ for the municipality. “This is our road map and the main document that we have to explore all the segments that help us grow as regards the number of tourists that visit us. We are not going to only concentrate on the sun and the beach, the golf and the Andalusian white village, but we are going to promote all the offer that the municipality has, which in addition, responds to all kinds of public and tastes”, assured the mayor. For her part, the provincial delegate for Tourism highlighted “the quality of this work carried out by the UMA, which has had the participation of professionals in the sector, as well as social agents involved, who have been able to offer their global vision on the matter so that those in charge of elaborating it could count on all the necessary elements to execute this great project”. Municipal sources stressed that the ‘Strategic Tourism Plan’ puts some microsegments on the table to work with them and design more varied tourist promotion. Quality sports tourism and nature, the commitment to a renowned historical and cultural heritage and the enhancement of craftsmanship and gastronomy are some of those microelements to exploit.

Quality sport tourism, immersion in nature, a renowned historic and cultural patrimony and the two most visible elements at the last edition of Fitur, handicrafts and gastronomy, are some of the microsegments that the ‘STRATEGIC TOUISM PLAN’ put on the table to design a more varied tourist promotion. The Town Hall is already working on it.
