Mijas - MIJAS, NEW ANDALUSIN AREA OF ARTISAN INTEREST
The Andalusian Handicrat Commission, a consultative entity integrated within the Ministry for Ëmployment, Business and Trade, supports this recognition due to the grat amount of unique craft workshops in Mijas.
This is an important achievement that confirms the trayectory and the work developed by the group of artisnas from Mijas, which always has the support and assistance fo the Mijas Town Hall. "At last they have declared us to be an Area of Artisan Interest" said the group´s president, Sonia Lekuona.
On the other hand, the councillor for Commerce, Laura Moreno (PSOE), said "I must congratulate them for the work they hace carried out so that Mijas is finally acknowledged in Andalusia as an area of special interest in artisanal matters, being a municipality in which there are 37 artisans, with 17 different crafts and much more to offer, which distinguishes it within the province of Málaga".
- Mijas fulfills a series of special characteristics regarding the production and commercialization of artisan products, attending to the trade, raw materials, tools and techniques. there is also a remarkable geographical concentration of craft workshops.
- As indicated in the Craft Commission, the activity developed in the workshops in Mijas is genuine, with differentiating characteristics from other productive activities due to the attention given to the final product.
- The main objectives fo the distintion are to promote the dissemination and improvement of artisan commerce, as well as to promote the competitive capacity and the degree of partnership among companies in the sector.
