New edition of the World Travel Market.- Mijas has once again been present at one of the most relevant showcases for the tourism sector on an international level: the 38th edition of the World Travel Market. The objectives of the government team for this edition of the London fair have been to strengthen Mijas as a preferred destination throughout the whole year and attract new emerging markets, such as the Japanese, for which it has contacted tour operators specialised in Asian markets. Under the umbrella of the Costa del Sol Tourism brand, the delegation from Mijas in London, composed by Mayor Juan Carlos Maldonado (C’s), the councillor for Tourism, Fuensanta Lima (PSOE) and the director of the Tourism Offi ce, Juan Carlos Acevedo, has deployed a well-defi ned strategy. The objectives are to strengthen Mijas as a preferred destination throughout the year and attract new markets, such as the Japanese. “This forum allows us to delve into other markets, such as Japan, which also has high purchasing power”, said the councillor. In this regard, during this year, the arrival of these tourists to Mijas has tripled. The consolidation of the British tourist, the support to the local businesspersons of the sector and the promotion of new segments such as nature and sports have been other points that have been highlighted during the fair.
