This week, Mijas is strengthening its presence on the international golf tourism scene with its participation in the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), held in the French city of Cannes. This is the world’s leading event for the sector, bringing together destinations, tour operators and professionals from around the globe.

The councillor for Tourism at the Mijas Town Hall, Francisco Jerez (Vox), headed the municipal delegation at this strategic event, where he has held meetings with specialist tour operators and representatives of international agencies. "We have showcased Mijas’s potential as a first-class golf destination, offering a wide range of high-quality experiences that combine sport, nature, excellent accommodation and Mediterranean cuisine", explained the councillor.

Mijas currently has 12 golf courses, making it one of the municipalities with the highest concentration of such facilities in Andalusia. Added to this is an excellent selection of hotels and complementary services that enable visitors to enjoy the municipality all year round. "Golf is not only a driving force for tourism, it is also a key tool for deseasonalisation and for attracting visitors with high purchasing power, who generate employment and wealth in the municipality", emphasised Jerez.

Mijas' participation in the IGTM was supported by Turismo y Planificación Costa del Sol, as part of a joint strategy to continue positioning the province of Málaga as an international benchmark in golf tourism. "Taking part in trade fairs of this calibre allows us to strengthen alliances and continue to grow as a destination, consolidating Mijas’s name in the main European golf markets", concluded the councillor.
