Good news for the tourism sector in Mijas: during August, the municipality recorded an occupancy rate of 93.57%, making it one of the leading destinations in the province of Malaga. According to data provided by the Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos), the average occupancy rate for the province is 92.14%, 1.26 points above the average recorded during the same period in 2024. Mijas exceeds this figure.

As for the forecasts for September, the hotel association places Mijas at 90.63%, which would once again place the municipality among the towns with the best records in the province. In fact, the forecast for this month is 87.65% for Malaga as a whole. By nationality, the number of domestic tourists is expected to decrease to 30% of the total, compared to 70% from the international market. For October 2025, the hotel association forecasts occupancy of 74.13%, compared to 86.70% in October last year.

For her part, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), wanted to thank the tourism sector for its work. "The month of August has once again confirmed the strength of the Costa del Sol as a first-class tourist destination, which is the result of the perfectly coordinated work of all the segments that make up the sector and which have the full support of the Town Hall. We will now continue working to consolidate these figures", explained the mayoress.

The councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), highlighted that "Mijas is once again at the forefront of the province, which shows that our tourism model is attractive and competitive. These figures are the result of a joint effort between the administration, business owners and workers in the sector".

Jerez also stressed that "international tourism continues to be one of the main drivers of our local economy, but we must not forget the importance of the domestic market, which continues to trust Mijas as a safe and high-quality destination". Finally, the councillor pointed out that "we are working to strengthen the cultural, gastronomic, leisure and sporting offer throughout the year. We want those who visit us in September and October to find the same level of excellence in Mijas as in the high season".
